Colonial Williamsburg, Virginia has a seemingly unlimited amount of location options for anniversary sessions. The former colonial capitol began to go through a preservation project of the 18th century buildings after the Rev. Dr. W.A.R. Goodwin, rector of Bruton Parish Church shared his vision for Williamsburg with John D. Rockefeller Jr. and his wife in 1924. What started as a preservation project turned into a full scale restoration project. We get to enjoy the results of their hard work today. I absolutely love working with clients in Colonial Williamsburg. There is a vast variety of gardens, buildings with interesting architecture, greenspace, and trees. For this anniversary session, we met up, then walked along Duke of Gloucester Street.  We stopped at a garden first, which gave us the opportunity to capture some beautiful images of this family as the parents interacted with their boys and their au pair.  Their boys are so much fun and have lots of energy, so I worked with their energy and not against it.  Kids are natural movers, so when they start getting antsy, that is the time to give them a special Job (photo bombing if they follow directions with me first), an opportunity to move (run down and touch the fence and then run back).  Allowing kids to be themselves and working with them can also give a variety of fun images for their gallery as well!  Next we headed over to the palace green, then moved into a yard behind a house on the west side of the Palace Green which is the perfect place at sunset. Colonial Williamsburg is the perfect place for families who love colonial architecture, gardens, and who don’t mind walking a little ways to get to all of those perfect locations.
