About the Photographer

3hello friend image

I am so glad that you are here! I am Joy.  I grew up in Indiana, went to college (Greenville University) in Illinois, met and married the man of my dreams, and eventually moved to Virginia in 2002.  I absolutely love living here in Virginia and have always felt so drawn to here.  Oddly enough, after my maternal grandma passed away in 2014, we discovered that several generations of her family lived in the Shenandoah region and the northern Virginia region many years ago.

I truly love serving couples through my photography and because of my own marriage.  I met my husband at the end of my Senior year of college and we became the best of friends.  He was the one who really understood me and the pain from my past.  He loved me through so much stuff and has been and still is one of the most selfless people I know.    I love pouring into couples as I work with them because I know what a treasure it is to finally find ‘your person’.  It really brings me so much ‘joy’!  I especially love the moment of the “first look” because the beaming smiles and subtle tears are such strong evidence of how much the couple cherishes one another.

Creativity is definitely woven into who I am as a person.  In addition to photography, I love to sing and play violin, something I have done since elementary school.   I grew up singing or playing violin on stage at church and at school.  Through a course of friendships and various connections in college, I joined one of the on campus rock bands and sang background vocals.  This eventually played a huge role in the meeting of my husband, even though I didn’t realize it at the time.   When I met Mike, I discovered that we shared a huge love for music, and we began singing together so often that we ended up doing a concert together in his hometown.  We still sing together today, too.

My grandparents left an incredible legacy for me which has influenced my life in multiple ways.  It was this legacy that prompted the name of my business:  Belle Eve Photography.  I was especially close with my “Mamaw”, as we called her.  As a way to honor her and the impact she had on my life, I named my business after her.  Her middle name was Belle, and Eve is the short version of her first name, which also happens to be part of my middle name.  You can read more about this story here.

If legacy is important to you, I’d love to help preserve it for you.  Outside of serving others with my photography, I love being outdoors, especially when it involves camping and my hubby, our three kids and our fourth child, Booker.  You can read more about our sweet furbaby here!   (And yes, I did a session for my furbaby.  Wouldn’t you?  I mean, look at how cute he is!)

I dream of backpacking on the Appalachian Trail, taking long walks on the oceanfront on warm summer nights, and watching the sunset.  And, I would be remiss if I didn’t mention my love of coffee.  I probably like it too much, but hey!  It’s the juice that keeps me going.  🙂

I believe in providing a valuable experience for each client as I capture those special moments in time.   Each family deserves to have a beautiful representation of their loved ones to display and to look back on and remember the love they share as they revisit their “family story”.  Those “moments” belong to you, as irreplaceable precious memories.   Belle Eve Photography exists to celebrate life, love, marriage, and family legacy and I would be honored to capture your memories.
