New look, the same Virginia photography you know and love.

Wedding at Under the Stars Farm

Melissa and Beau’s wedding at Under the Stars Farm was full of unique, creative ideas that made guests of all ages feel welcome.  Their day was truly about the love they have for one another and the love of family and friends, and it was a joy to capture the various moments throughout the day!  The biggest thing that stood out about their wedding wasn’t the beautiful outdoor, ceremony area, the flowers or their wedding attire.  Instead, it was this sentence that Melissa said to Beau as she tenderly rolled up his sleeves:  “let’s be us.”    Their beautiful wedding embodied this profound statement.

Their Story

Beau and Melissa met when they were both really young.  They became best friends instantly. After over 13 years of being best friends they decided they should give it a shot because they were already pretty much inseparable and went to each other for everything. Shortly after they began officially dating, they decided they should get married. Beau proposed to Melissa in the middle of the kitchen with friends and family around.

The First Look

Their day began with their first look on the beautiful deck, which surrounds a tree which proudly stands overlooking the ceremony area.   It was an endearing moment as Beau turned around to see his beautiful bride, Melissa.  It was just them and they were able to relax and just “be themselves” without others around.

The Ceremony

The ceremony literally brought characters to life.   Guests dressed as favorite cosplay characters, which created such a fun atmosphere!  From Ghostbusters to Forrest Gump, guests arrived ready to celebrate this sweet couple.  After Beau walked down the aisle with his two daughters and made his way to the front, the most adorable “Candy Girls” (in place of flower girls)  walked down the aisle tossing candy on the aisle runner and to guests.  Melissa looked beautiful in her wedding gown as she proceeded down the aisle to join Beau.  What made it even more perfect was their choice of wedding officiant:  William Wallace from Braveheart, complete with a Scottish accent!  Another special moment was when they had Beau’s niece come up and help as they exchanged their vows and rings.  She also celebrated with them by walking with them during the recessional after they were announced as husband and wife.

The Reception

After they ceremony, we were able to capture some family photos and gather all guests with costumes on for a huge group photo.  Then, everyone headed to the reception tent where they could snack on 6 different types of popcorn, play with legos at their tables and play yard games. I love how they incorporated fun for all ages! After a delicious BBQ dinner by Lovells, guests celebrated on the dance floor.   As the reception wound down, we did a few additional family photos at golden hour under the archway and between the raised lavender beds. Congratulations, Melissa and Beau!
