Northfield Estate

Northfield Estate, located among the rolling hills of Cumberland, Virginia, is a wedding venue that stands out because of its unique beauty and details.  In speaking to owner, Whitney Lipscomb, I learned that the renovations of the elaborate estate house and grounds have been a labor of love.  Owners Whitney and Robert are fearless visionaries who have confidently moved forward with the complex and sometimes daunting project to turn this enormous house and estate into an elegant wedding venue where couples will celebrate the most important day of their lives.  It is exquisite.  Every detail has been considered and carefully selected.  If you’re a bride looking for a wedding venue, you are in for a real treat.  They are now booking weddings this year!

History of Northfield

Northfield Estate was originally built around 1820.  The original home burned down during the depression.  However, the existing home was rebuilt on the original footprint in the 1960’s.  It has changed hands several times over the past 30 years.  The current owners have invested a great deal financially and have worked incredibly hard to ensure that their estate venue allows couples to have memorable weddings with elegance and Southern charm.

As you arrive to Northfield Estate, the main house has a sweet, southern estate charm, with some modern amenities.  It’s bright white appearance with dark fixtures offer a luxury estate feel as you approach the front entrance.  Immediately to the left of the main house proudly stands a 100-year-old willow oak tree, which is the perfect location for your outdoor ceremony.  Immediately inside the house is a grand staircase, a dining room to the left, and a sitting room to the right.  As you walk past the staircase, you’ll see a kitchen which can be used to keep your food as you get ready in the magnificent bridal suite.

Locations to Get Ready

The bridal suite is spacious with lots of light.  It has a salon area where your stylist and makeup artist will help you to prepare for your big day as you enjoy the company of your besties!  In addition to the salon area, there is an overflow room with a gorgeous chandelier, tall windows, and a door that leads to a patio which will eventually be an enclosed area.

Outside of the bridal suite door and down the path, sits a house that is dedicated to the groom and groomsmen.  It has space to get ready with a kitchen to keep food and drinks.  As you’re getting ready, you will also be able to relax in the sitting area or enjoy a game of foosball or pool (coming soon).

Ceremony Area

If you have an outdoor ceremony, you can opt to have your ceremony beneath the beautiful 100-year-old willow oak.  Depending on the size of your guest list, you could also have your ceremony in the back of the main house on the terrace or even down the back stairs on the large patio.  There are flexible options.  If it should rain on your wedding day, your ceremony could be moved inside the ballroom.

Cocktail Hour Space

Right after the ceremony, guests can enjoy cocktail hour in several places.  There is a dining space in the main house that can be used.  Additionally, cocktail hour can be enjoyed outdoors on the terrace or patio.

Reception Area

The Grand Ballroom is truly a work of art!  This space used to have a second floor.  However, the owners envisioned this space as the perfect space for the ballroom.  They tore out the second floor, installed gorgeous crystal chandeliers, and the results are stunning.  This space can hold about 100 guests, and with the white walls, you can customize this space with your wedding color scheme.

The Pond

During golden hour, this is one of my favorite locations for the bride and groom portrait session.  Imagine the sun starting to go down, a color-streaked pink and orange sky, and the wedding couple.  Magical!   With the water reflecting the trees, it will become an extraordinary place for photography from Spring to Fall!
